Allergies
Allergies occur when your body overreacts to things that don't cause problems for most people. These things are called allergens. Your body's overreaction to the allergens is what causes symptoms. The most common allergens are Pollen from trees, grass and weeds, mold, animal dander, and dust. Every time you open a door or window, allergens find their way into your home and eventually settle on surfaces. The surface where most of them settle is the carpet, so cleaning your carpet can help to remove allergens from your home and reduce your symptoms.
Dust mites are also a major cause of allergic symptoms. Dust mites feed on dead skin cells, we shed millions of dead skin cells every day and they end up wherever you find dust. Because the proteins in skin cells are hard to digest, dust mites have very powerful digestive fluids. The waist product from dust mites is actually the allergen that causes symptoms for most people. Dust mites also thrive in moist conditions much like mold and mildew.
Naturell's low moisture method is the best way to clean your carpet if you suffer from allergies because wet carpet provides a haven for mold and dust mites to grow. It is a common misconception that the "steam method" kills germs, molds, and dust mites with heat. But in fact 140 degrees is the average temperature of the hot water when it reaches the carpet (although it can be adjusted higher). Not really hot enough to kill much, and not hot enough to be called steam which is 212 degrees. It does however leave behind moisture.
In all fairness though cleaning regardless of the method is beneficial to reducing allergic symptoms by removing allergens. Carpet and upholstery are not the only places you will find allergens. Be sure to clean any area where dust settles which is everywhere.
